Connecting a computer to TV screen can be a useful way to display presentations or videos on a larger screen or simply to use a TV screen as a monitor. When using a TV as a monitor it is important to have as high a screen resolution as possible so that the small text of your computer desktop and windows is legible. Instructions

    • 1

Place the computer close enough to the TV so that your HDMI cable will reach from one to the other.

    • 2

Plug one end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI port on your computer's video card.

    • 3

Plug the other end of the HDMI cable into an open HDMI input port on the TV. Many HDTVs have an HDMI input on the side of the TV for easy on demand access. If your TV does not have a port on the front or side, you will have to plug it into a port on the back.

    • 4

Turn on the TV and the computer.

    • 5

Use the TV remote control to change the video mode to the appropriate HDMI connection. Just like when you switch from watching TV to using a DVD player or game console, you need will need to switch your TV's input mode to use the HDMI connection that your computer is plugged in to.

Tips & Warnings

  • HDMI technology can send both audio and video signals in one cable, so the TV speakers may play sound from things running on the computer, such as online videos or DVDs. Some video cards, however, may not have the ability to send audio through HDMI.
