How to Make a Grappling Hook Gun
Grappling hooks have been used throughout the years by pirates and the military alike. A grappling hook’s purpose is to grab hold of the surface of the object it is thrown at; it can be retrieved if it does not make the target by pulling it back with the attached rope. You can make a pretend “grappling hook gun” out of an airsoft gun and a few parts from a hobby store in less than an hour. You can then decide whether to be a pirate or a soldier when using your grappling hook gun.

1
Put the newspaper down on a table. Put the glass dish on the newspaper. Light a match. Hold the match against the bottom of the candle to heat the wax.
-
2
Put the candle down on the glass dish to adhere it to the dish’s surface. Blow out the match. Run the match under tap water from the kitchen sink before disposing of it in the trash.

3
Place the four plastic dowels down side by side horizontally on the newspaper. Measure a half inch from the right side of each dowel towards the left side. Make a line at the half-inch mark using the black magic marker.
-
4
Light the candle with a match. Blow out the match and put it down on the glass dish.
-
5
Hold a plastic dowel over the flame at the marked point until the plastic softens. Bend the plastic dowel at the marked point downward to form an “L” shape. Repeat this with the other three plastic dowels. Blow out the candle.
-
6
Place the circular plastic connector down on the newspaper. Place the bent end of a plastic dowel against the top end of the circular plastic connector. Apply hot glue to secure it in position.
-
7
Place the bent end of a second plastic dowel against the bottom end of the circular plastic connector. Apply hot glue to secure it in position.
-
8
Repeat the procedure just completed with a plastic dowel placed against the left end of the circular plastic connector and the final plastic dowel placed against the right end of the circular plastic connector. Let the glue set for at least five minutes.
-
9
Turn the circulate plastic connector over. Insert one end of the metal skewer into the center hole of the circular plastic connector. Apply hot glue to the end of the skewer where it meets the hole to secure it in position. Let the glue set for at least five minutes.
-
10
Wrap duct tape around the middle of the metal skewer. Tie the end of the string to the metal skewer closest the circular plastic connector. Unwrap a couple of feet from the spool of string. Cut the string with the scissors.
-
11
Tie the other end of the string around the stock of the airsoft gun. Cock the firing mechanism of the airsoft gun.
-
12
Insert the free end of the metal skewer into the barrel of the airsoft gun. Aim the grappling hook gun you have made at a tree or rock in your backyard. Make sure that there is nobody in the line of fire.
-
13
Press the trigger on your grappling hook to shoot the grappling hook out of the gun at your target. Retrieve the grappling hook once it has been shot by pulling it back with the string.
