How to Fix Error Code 41
You have just upgraded your system by installing a new CD or DVD device and your computer gives this error: "Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)." You have installed a device that is not plug-and-play or removed a device and not the device drivers. This situation may not be easily resolved, but there are steps you can take to resolve the error.

Restart or turn on system.

Remove the device driver. Right-click on "My Computer" on your computer screen and then select "Properties." Click the "Hardware" tab and locate the "Driver" tab. The device generating the error code will have an exclamation point next to it. Click the driver to remove this device.

Reattach the device. A window will open with the option "Scan for New Devices."

Click the "Scan for new Devices" button.

Reinstall the driver. Windows will ask if you want to install device drivers for the device. Click "Yes."

Restart your computer.

Go to the manufacturer's website for the device that is generating the error code.

Locate the model number of the device.

Download updated drivers for the device.

Restart your computer.

Tips & Warnings
Some versions of Windows will be able to troubleshoot the problem for you. If a window opens asking to troubleshoot the problem, click "Yes."
Use a registry cleaning tool after you have uninstalled a device driver to thoroughly remove leftover code from a device driver.
