Keeping your headlights in full working order protects the safety of your family on the road.

You should replace the headlights on your 2003 Nissan Altima right away if they burn out or malfunction. Most states have laws requiring that your lights be in full working order at all times; if you do not replace a burned-out bulb right away, you could face a ticket. The headlight assembly on your 2003 Altima is easy to replace once you remove the front fascia, or bumper cover. Buy headlight assemblies from an auto parts store or a Nissan dealership.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the front fascia from your Altima to gain access to the headlight assembly. Remove the two bolts inside each wheel well securing the fascia with a socket and ratchet. Pull each fastener out of place around the entire length of the fascia, and pull the fascia off the front of the car.

    • 2

Remove the four mounting bolts securing the headlight assembly to the car, using a socket and ratchet. Slide the headlight assembly forward to access the wiring harness behind the assembly.

    • 3

Disconnect the wiring harness behind the headlight assembly by pulling the connector straight back, away from the headlight assembly. Pull the headlight assembly straight out of the front of the car.

    • 4

Connect the wiring harness to the new headlight assembly by pressing it straight into place. Insert the headlight assembly into the mounting area on the car and replace the mounting bolts around the assembly. Tighten the bolts with a socket and ratchet.

    • 5

Replace the fascia and push in to secure all of the fasteners across the length of the fascia. Replace the bolts inside the wheel well and tighten them with a socket and ratchet.

    • 6

Test the operation of the headlights to be sure they are functioning properly.
