File and sand the metal until the joints are completely flush and fit exactly.

If needed, clean the metal with acetone to remove any markings on the metal caused during fabrication or production.

Clean the metal with soap or detergent and water. Many cleaners are widely available, but Simple Green cleaner is an excellent choice because it can be purchased at many stores and it is non-toxic, biodegradable, non-hazardous, non-corrosive and non-flammable.

Rinse the soap off the metal thoroughly with running water.
