How to Create Vampire Teeth

Vampire teeth

Vampire teeth are a common sight in horror films, on Halloween and even as a fashion statement in real life. Typically, vampire teeth are a costume effect you buy at the mall. These are convenient, but may not fit your teeth comfortably. A convincing vampire costume needs convincing vampire teeth, and these can be made at home. This doesn't require a special effects wizard; the task needs a little patience and a few materials to make vampire teeth.

Things You'll Need

  • Impression plate
  • Alginate
  • Dental plaster

Instructions

  1. Make the Mold

Fill the casting plate with alginate and slowly set teeth into the plate. Do this over a sink for a few minutes to get rid of any drool. After the alginate has set, gently wiggle your teeth out. Fill the cast with dental plaster, and after it sets remove the alginate and fix whatever defects you find using the scalpel and plaster rasp.

Now form the fimo clay into several little balls the size of pencil erasers. Use the balls on the mold of your teeth and form them into the kind of vampire teeth you want. Make sure they are fitted well, so they won't fall off when you wear them and you can close your mouth with them on. Add whatever details or textures that seem best.
Once the vampire teeth are formed as desired, put the whole mold in the oven to bake. Place them on a baking sheet and set them to bake according to the package instructions for the fimo. Be sure to keep an eye on them as they bake, making sure they don't burn.

After removing the mold from the oven and letting it cool, gently remove the vampire teeth from the mold. If they give too much resistance, use a little petroleum jelly to lubricate the mold and remove the fimo. The plaster may begin to break, so again, be gentle.

Place the teeth carefully over you own. Since a mold was used for these vampire teeth, they should fit quite well and be comfortable. Sandpaper can be used to dull any sharp edges. Paint or tooth stain can now be used to color the teeth. You may want to apply a few coats to really get the right brightness for the teeth. After painting the teeth, set them aside to dry.

The vampire teeth are finished and ready to wear. If they still feel a little loose, a bit of adhesive for dentures will help keep them in place.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be sure to take the teeth off if you need to eat and don't bite down too hard on them or they'll break.

  • When using paint on the teeth be sure to let them dry thoroughly, as paint can contain lead, which is poisonous.
