How to Get Luigi on Super Mario 64

Super Mario 64 is a platform video game for the Nintendo 64 video game console that features the Mario characters from the popular Super Mario Bros. series. The game has also been updated for the Nintendo Wii and DS. For the Nintendo DS portable console version you can unlock Luigi as playable character in the game. After you receive the Luigi key you can choose to play as Luigi in order to complete the game. You begin playing as Yoshi and can also unlock the Mario and Wario characters.

Instructions

1. Play as Mario and earn at least eight stars to enter the fifth course of the game, called Big Boo’s Haunt. Find Big Boo in the basement and then chase him out to the courtyard.

2. Jump over the Big Boo and press the “R” button while in the air to perform a ground pound on the Big Boo. A miniature cage will then appear and you can walk into it.

3. Enter the large ghost house and use the ground pound attack to defeat any ghosts you encounter. Continue through the house until you reach the main room and turn left to enter into a doorway on the northwest side.

4. Dodge the furniture that flies out at you and then use your ground pound attack again to defeat the ghosts that come out of the painting. Return to the main room and you’ll encounter the Big Boo.

5. Perform a slide kick attack at the Big Boo by pressing the “R” and “A” buttons at the same time while running. Continue to attack Big Boo two more times and then you’ll receive the first star of the course. A set of steps will appear, leading to the second level of the house.

6. Go up the stairs and enter the door on your right. Grab the Power Flower and press the “B” button repeatedly to float up to the ledge. Jump into the Luigi painting to enter the Big Boo’s Battle level.

7. Enter each door where you hear laughing to make it through the maze. If you enter the wrong door you have to start back at the beginning of the maze. Continue until you enter the room that has a large bridge with falling bricks.

8. Run across the bridge quickly and go up each lift. Jump into the hole to find a room with a mirror. The reflection will turn into Luigi and then Big Boo will appear. Quickly turn around when Big Boo is near you.

9. Punch Big Boo by pressing the “A” button. Punch him two more times and you will receive the Luigi key. Luigi is now a playable character in the game.
