How to Wear Mule Shoes
Mules are a semi-casual, usually closed-toe (or peep-toe), shoe. Some look more casual than others--much depends on the shoe material and the color. Black or brown plain leather, for example, look less casual than a brightly colored or multi-colored pair. No matter how dressy some might look, however, there are ways to wear them and situations in which they are more acceptable than others.

Wear dressy mules with or without pantyhose. Keep in mind, however, that because mules have no back, the shoes slip off your feet easily--and pantyhose will make this worse. Also, do not wear pantyhose with casual mules--those made of suede and lined with fleece, for example.

Pair these shoes with jeans, if the mules are casual looking. Nice looking, dressy mules can be paired with suit trousers or long skirts, according to bluesuitmom.com. Wear socks with casual mules only if the socks match the mules; otherwise; it isn’t very attractive. During colder weather, you might want to keep your feet warm, and that is understandable, but think of mules (at least many styles of them) as similar to sandals: Wearing socks can easily look tacky. This is a personal thing, however, and you should go with what is most comfortable for you, especially if the mules are meant for casual, around-the-house wear.
