Instructions

    • 1

Hold down the "FN" key on the Dell Inspiron 1501's keyboard. Tap the up arrow key repeatedly and see if the brightness increases.

    • 2

Remove the AC power adapter and then plug it back in to ensure it is making a full connection. Check to see if the screen becomes brighter.

    • 3

Navigate to the "Start" menu and click "Control Panel." Select "Performance and Maintenance" and then click "Power Options." Select "Adjust the Display Brightness" and then drag the slide bar to the right to increase the brightness.

    • 4

Acquire a new inverter board for your Dell Inspiron 1501 if the laptop remains dim. Power off the 1501 and close the display lid. Remove the power cable and flip the entire laptop over.

    • 5

Push over the battery release latch and remove the battery. Remove the two display assembly securing screws located at the top edge of the case with a Phillips screwdriver.

    • 6

Turn the Inspiron 1501 around so that you can see the hinges on the back of the case. Remove the two hinge screws. Flip the 1501 back over and open the display lid.

    • 7

Pull off the six rubber bumpers located at the edges of the 1501's display screen. Remove the six screws underneath the bumpers with a Phillips screwdriver.

    • 8

Pull the plastic cover off the 1501's display screen. Locate the rectangular inverter board at the bottom end of the display screen. Pull up on the locking latch at the right side of the board and then disconnect the attached cable.

    • 9

Lift the inverter out of its housing. Set the replacement inverter board in its place and then reconnect the cable. Set the plastic cover back onto the 1501's LCD screen.

    • 10

Reconnect the screws you removed earlier and put the battery back into the Inspiron 1501.

If the right half of an lcd screen on a 1501 is black except for a few colored vertical lines does that mean it's a bad LCD or bad lcd inverter board?
