You can play old Windows 95 games in Windows XP using compatiblity mode.

Sometimes you may feel the itch to play an old Windows 95 game that you enjoyed long ago. However, many older Windows 95 games simply won't start up on the Windows XP operating system. In this case, you will have to set the compatibility mode in Windows XP to allow you to run the older Windows 95 application.

Instructions

    • 1

Install the Widows 95 game on your computer, if it is not already installed. Take note of the installation path--the directory in which Windows installed the game.

    • 2

Locate the folder where your game is installed.

    • 3

Determine which file in the folder is the runtime.exe file that will launch the game. Usually, the icon for this file will look like the game icon that you would normally see on your computer's desktop or in the Start menu.

    • 4

Right click on the .exe file and choose "Properties" from the context menu that appears. This will open the Properties dialog box.

    • 5

      Navigate to the "Compatibility" tab.

    • 6

Click the checkbox next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and choose Windows 95 from the drop-down menu.

    • 7

Click on the "Apply" button, then click on "OK."

    • 8

Double click the .exe file to launch the game using Windows 95 compatibility mode.
