How to Increase Wireless Internet Reception
Wireless Internet, also called Wi-Fi, is a popular and convenient way to surf the web, especially when using laptops and other mobile devices. Wireless Internet allows many different users to connect through a single wireless access point. Despite its advantages, wireless Internet can sometimes be problematic because connectivity depends on the signal strength or reception received by a computer's wireless adapter. There are some things you can do to maximize connection strength to prevent loss of connectivity and slow network performance.

1
Move as close to your access point as possible. If you have wireless in your home, use your computer next to your wireless router. If you are connecting to wireless in a public area, ask where the router is located so that you can find a spot near it to get a better signal.
-
2
Remove physical obstructions. Sometimes it is not practical to move your computer closer to the wireless router, but you can often take steps to reduce physical obstructions. Move furniture and open doors to promote better wireless signals.

Use a wireless repeater. A wireless repeater is a device that can be placed between a router and a computer to increase wireless signal strength. Plug the repeater in an approximately equal distance between your computer and router. Try to set it up so that no obstructions stand between the router and repeater and the repeater and your computer.

4
Update your wireless card's drivers. Click "Start," "Control Panel," "Administrative Tools," "Computer Management," "Device Manager." Then double-click on "Network Adapters" and then right-click on your wireless card and click "Update Driver Software..." You can also search driver update files at the website of your wireless card's manufacturer.

5
Upgrade the wireless antenna on your router. Many routers come with antennas that send signals in all directions, which can waste signal strength. Using a high-gain antenna that sends more powerful signals in a certain direction can improve signal strength.
