How to Choose Wi-Fi or 3G iPad
Apple offers several iPad models from which to choose. All of them are equipped for Wi-Fi reception, while some of them also have 3G cellular capabilities. Choosing between Wi-Fi only or Wi-Fi + 3G depends on how you plan to use the device.

1
Consider the cost. The iPads that offer 3G connectivity along with Wi-Fi service are more expensive that the Wi-Fi only models.
-
2
Evaluate ongoing fees. A Wi-Fi only iPad does not require a service provider, and there are no ongoing monthly fees. To use the 3G capability of a Wi-Fi + 3G model iPad, you must enter a service plan with a cellular service provider and pay a fee to use the service. The 3G service plan is available on a month-to-month basis and can be activated and terminated whenever you choose directly from the mobile device. When you do not activate a 3G plan for the Wi-Fi + 3G model iPad, it functions exactly as a Wi-Fi only model does.

3
Decide on the importance of GPS in your lifestyle. Although Wi-Fi only iPads offer some basic location information, the more advanced turn-by-turn GPS services require constant contact, normally not available on the road without a cellular connection. If you travel a great deal, the Wi-Fi + 3G may be a better choice for you.

4
Wi-Fi service is faster than 3G transfer rates. If you live in an area with Wi-Fi and don't plan to take your iPad on the road, the Wi-Fi only model may meet all your needs.
