How to Remove a 1989 Nissan Power Steering Belt

The power steering belt on a 1989 Nissan is the drive belt. The drive belt is the large black belt connected to all the round pulley on the front of the engine. The power steering pump pulley is the pulley in front of the power steering pump on the upper driver side of the engine. To remove and install the power steering pump, you must remove the power steering pump belt from the power steering pump pulley.

      Open the 1989 Nissan's hood. Locate the drive belt going around the entire front of the engine. Locate the tensioner pulley on the upper passenger side of the engine. The tensioner pulley will not be connected to any components on the engine.

      Connect the key in the middle of the pulley removal tool to the metal nut in the middle of the tensioner pulley. Brace the four-arm on the pulley removal tool onto the face of the pulley to support the pulley tool. Insert the metal pin on the back of the pulley tool into the hole on the end of the power drill. Tighten the power dill tip, using the key supplied with the power drill.

      Pull the trigger on the power drill to loosen the nut on the tension pulley. As the drive belt gets slack in it, pull the drive belt off the power steering pump pulley.
