Keyless remotes are used with GM vehicles

A popular feature on most vehicles manufactured since the mid-1990s is the keyless entry and remote starter system, which has become almost a standard on vehicles. General Motors is among the manufacturers that feature the technology and allows users to purchase the system from the dealership or have it installed after-market. After installation, the system is equipped with multiple remotes, which you can easily program by yourself at home.

Instructions

    • 1

Enter your GM vehicle with your ignition key and the keyless remotes that you wish to program. Be sure to close all of the doors behind you, as well as the trunk.

    • 2

Insert your key into the ignition and press and hold the unlock button tab on your driver's side door.

    • 3

Turn the key in your ignition to the "On" position and then back to the "Off" position two times. Do this in quick succession while still holding the unlock key on your door.

    • 4

Release the unlock button once you turn the key back to the "Off" position the final time and listen for the programming sequence to respond by cycling the door locks.

    • 5

Press and hold both the lock and unlock buttons on your remote until the doors respond by again cycling the locks.

    • 6

Repeat the previous step for any additional remotes. Do this within 10 seconds of the last remote to program these to the system as well.

    • 7

Turn the key in your ignition back to the "On" position to end the programming. You can then turn your car off and test your remotes to use them immediately.
