How to Run Diablo II in Windows 7
"Diablo II" is an action role-playing game developed by Blizzard Entertainment for PC. As "Diablo 2" was originally designed to run on older versions of Microsoft Windows, you may run into compatibility issues when trying to run the game on Windows 7. You can work around the problem by taking advantage of the Windows 7 "Compatibility Mode," which was designed to allow older programs to run on the newer Windows platform.

Click the "Start" button located on the task bar, then click "Control Panel."

Type "troubleshooter" into the "Search" dialog box, then click the "Troubleshooting" result that appears.

Click the "Programs" tab, then click the check box next to "Run programs made for previous versions of Windows."

Launch "Diablo II" to run it in compatibility mode.

Tips & Warnings
If you are running Windows 7 Starter, this fix isn't likely to work due to the limited features of that particular version of Windows. You are likely running a netbook if you are running Windows 7 Starter. The upgrade to Home Premium is worth it and will make your netbook run a LOT faster. This entire fix was discovered and executed on a netbook, which Diablo II is now running on smoothly.
This was not tested in Windows 7 Starter and is not expected to work in it. Feel free to try and update me if it does work.

It doesn't work at all. I have the CDs and it won't let me enter the Game Key at all.

Here's my problem. Ok so at first I tried it when I first installed it, I was able to run the program fine but it popped up in like this boxy view thing that looked almost like a widescreen setting except the black bars were on the side, and it wasn't a separate window or w.e. I still have the same problem, I tried troubleshooting and then running it in recommended settings and it fixed my problem of MAJOR lagging and dropping from EVERY game I joined even if it was my own private game by myself. It runs fine now. But I still have error messages that say "unrecoverable internal error" and says error: line # and it was like 105 the first time now its 905.. so I'm lost as to what could be the issue. PLEASE HELP!
