Many children have a fascination with boats and floating different items down rivers and gutters. In school or at home, showing a child how to make his own toy boat can be a fun and educational activity. Given the buoyancy of the materials, aluminum foil and paper make great materials for boat-making. Paper clips are a good alternative to glue or tape in this situation. With only three materials, anybody of practically any age can make a homemade toy boat.

Instructions

    • 1

Place one paper clip onto each corner of the index card. This will make the card sturdier and ensure that the corners don't bend.

    • 2

Cut out a piece of aluminum foil that is twice the size of the index card. Wrap the aluminum foil all the way around the index card.

    • 3

Cut out a second piece of aluminum foil that is 9 inches by 15 inches. Lay this piece of aluminum foil flat on a table.

    • 4

Place the index card that you've wrapped with aluminum foil in the middle of the second piece of aluminum foil.

    • 5

Fold up the edges of the second aluminum foil piece so that they fold at the corners and edges of the index card and stick straight up to form the sides of the boat.

    • 6

Secure the top of each corner of the boat with paper clips to ensure that the sides do not fall down.
