Improve your Buick's fuel economy by replacing old air filters.

Changing your vehicle's air filter is an easy step to take in extending your car's lifespan. Filters are relatively inexpensive and the entire process should not take more than 15 minutes. Plus, with a clean air filter, your engine does not have to work as hard and you save money on fuel costs.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a new air filter to fit into your 2002 Buick LeSabre. To find the right filter, visit an automotive shop and walk to the aisle containing air filters. Use the book located in this aisle and find the make and model of your car. The book will tell you which filter to buy. If you have trouble, ask a clerk to help you.

    • 2

Safely park your car and shut the engine off. Pop the hood on your 2002 Buick LeSabre.

    • 3

Locate the engine air cleaner/filter compartment. This is a black rectangular compartment on the driver's side of your engine. Looking at the engine, it will be on your right-hand side. Notice a ribbed black tub with a metal ring that leads into the engine: the black box to which this tube is connected is your engine air cleaner/filter compartment.

    • 4

Lift two latches near the intake hose (the ribbed black tube). These latches hold the housing cover to your engine air cleaner/filter down.

    • 5

Unscrew the metal ring on the intake tube. Pull the intake hose upward and away to remove it from the engine air cleaner/filter compartment.

    • 6

Locate a round connector on the air intake hose; there should be wiring wrapped in electrical tape coming out of the top of it. This is the electrical connector. Unsnap it and remove it to gain access to the filter's location.

    • 7

Pull the rear portion of the engine air cleaner/filter up and towards you. Pull out the old air filter and discard.

    • 8

Slide in the new air filter into the same spot from which you removed the old filter. Replace the rear section of the air cleaner/filter housing and reconnect the electrical connector. Next, reattach the intake hose and fasten the snaps on the cover.
