When using a PC laptop you must have a battery installed in order to use the computer. Without the battery, the computer is just a paperweight. Although the PC laptop does comes with a battery, you may want to purchase a second battery if you are on the go a good deal and want the extra life for your computer. However, before you can purchase the new battery you need to first determine what battery the PC takes.

Power down your current laptop and flip it over. On the underside of the laptop is a small release button. This button unlocks the laptop's battery. Press the button and remove the battery.

Look on the battery for the make and model number. It is usually the largest printed font on the device.

Open the user manual for the laptop computer and flip to the "battery" section. In the battery section it states what battery the PC laptop takes. This is helpful if you don't want to remove the battery from your laptop.

Launch the Web browser on your computer and make your way to the laptop's manufacturer site. Search your for the specific laptop and the type of battery it uses.
