When you set up a wireless network using AT&T U-verse Internet service, anyone within the wireless router's range can connect to the network if it is not secured. Securing your network helps keep unauthorized users out, but you and your guests are also locked out if you forget the encryption key. If you forget your key or want to let guests use the network and and do not have it written down, you can access the router's administration page from a connected Web browser and retrieve the encryption key.

Step 1

Type "http://192.168.1.254" into the address bar of your Web browser to open the AT&T router administration page.

Step 2

Click on the "Wireless" link under the Top Networking Features heading to open the Wireless Settings page.

Step 3

Scroll down to the Security section.

Step 4

Follow the instructions in the Security section. If you have never changed your key, find the default number on the router's System Label -- a sticker on the side of the device -- labeled Wireless Network Key, as the diagram shows. If you have changed the number, the encryption key is displayed in the "Use Custom Wireless Key" text field on the page.
