Instructions

    • 1

Using gloves, put a piece of dry ice in a shallow Styrofoam container and cover it with boiling water. The mist will be created from the dry ice when the hot water is poured on it.

    • 2

Place the shallow dish with the dry ice on the floor of the room where you want the fog to be. The fog will settle near the floor.

    • 3

Use a small fan to distribute the fog around the room.

    • 4

As the water cools, the dry ice will stop creating mist. You will need to add more hot water to the container to keep the mist constant.

    • 5

If the dry ice melts prematurely, put the gloves back on and place more ice in the Styrofoam container and pour more hot water over it if needed.

Tips & Warnings

  • You will get more fog in a cool room.

  • Use larger pieces of dry ice because they will melt slower and last longer.

  • You can purchase dry ice at most grocery stores, but you may need to pre-order it, so call ahead.

  • Find a large cauldron to place the Styrofoam container in. This will make is look as if the mist is coming from the cauldron.

  • Dry ice can cause headaches or drowsiness if its gases are inhaled for a long period of time. Do not allow anyone to lie down in the fog, and do not use dry ice when babies or pets are nearby.

  • Do not place dry ice in a closed bottle or a small area such as a closet or cooler.

  • Use gloves whenever handling dry ice because it is cold enough to cause frostbite.
