Connect your HD box to your TV

When connecting high definition transmissions to your television, you may need an HD receiver box. This is usually the case when you don't subscribe to cable or satellite service but want to view HD programming. Many HD televisions need an HD converter receiver box because the television doesn't have the built in HD receiver that a cable/satellite receiver box typically has.

Instructions

    • 1

Check your TV for available HD connections. TVs use either HDMI or component connections. HDMI is a single connection port a little wider than USB, while component connections use five different cables, three for video and two for audio. Whatever ports are on your television, the HD box must have the same ones. If you have both, you may find HDMI is easier to use because it is a single cable.

    • 2

Purchase an HD box that has the same connection ports as your HD television. You can find HD receiver boxes at most electronics stores.

    • 3

Insert the connection cable into the television. When using an HDMI cable, plug it into the HDMI port. When using component cables, plug them into the "Component In" ports.

    • 4

Plug the opposite end of the cable(s) into the HD box's "Out" port (either "HDMI" or "Component").

    • 5

Connect the HD antenna to the HD box. Usually a single HDMI cable runs out of the antenna and plugs into the "In" port on the back of the HD box.
