How Do I Unlock a Passworded Zip File?
Zip files are compressed files within a folder. Some people use zip files because they can be protected with a password. Sometimes, though, you can lose or forget the password. With the appropriate software, you can unlock a password-protected zip file.

Download and install a password cracker program. Many free programs are available; see the Resources section for links.

Load the program. Click "Open." Select the password-protected zip file that you want to unlock.

Select the method of attack you would like to use to unlock the zip file. The "brute force" method tries to unlock the zip file with random letter combinations; the "dictionary" method inputs words from a dictionary.

Click "Start" to begin. The program will notify you of the password if it's successful.

Password cracker programs do not always uncover the password.
