How to Display Silent Auction Items
Silent auctions are a popular feature at fundraising events. They typically accompany a larger fundraising effort, such as a charity dinner or performance. The hard work of securing auction items is only one step in the auction planning. How silent auction items are displayed can make a big impact on the success of the sale. Take time to thoroughly plan your silent auction displays before the event.

1
Choose a prominent location for the auction items. Typically, this would be near the entrance to the event, along the natural flow of traffic. Many people won't seek out the display if they don't come upon it naturally. Placing the items near the door will catch the eye of most attendees.
-
2
Separate the items into logical groupings. Bundling together similar items makes them more appealing and will typically earn higher bids. For example, if your donations include a luxurious robe, scented lotions and a spa gift certificate, combine the three items into one spa-themed package.

3
Place smaller bundles into baskets or similar decorative containers for the presentation. This makes them look more complete and visually appealing.
-
4
Print a high quality image to represent any items that aren't physically at the auction. For example, if a weekend getaway to a winery is up for auction, display a large photo of the winery or accommodations. You can also display a related item such as a bottle of wine from the winery. People are more likely to bid on an item if they can see it.
-
5
Write a detailed yet concise description of each bundle. Include a bullet list of each component. Use a font that is easy to read so guests can skim it quickly. Give each bundle a catchy title to grab their attention.
-
6
Give the most valuable items a prominent location in the auction display. A sturdy box underneath the tablecloth is a good way to elevate these items so they draw more attention.
-
7
Arrange the rest of the auction items on the tables. Physically divide the displays either by space or table coverings so the guests can easily distinguish between the items.
-
8
Display the item descriptions in front of each item so they are easy to see.
