Sealed-beam style headlight

2002 was the last model-year for the Pontiac Firebird, as well as its Trans Am trim level. Because the vehicle last received a redesign in 1993, the 2002 model still used sealed-beam headlights, unlike other modern vehicles, which use reflective headlight lenses with a removable bulb. Replacing a sealed-beam headlight is simpler than replacing a reflective headlight. You can replace the headlights on your Pontiac Trans Am in less than five minutes. The process is the same as in the standard Firebird--even the same headlight is used.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn your headlight switch to "On" to open the motorized headlight covers. Flip the switch to "Park" (parking lights) to turn the headlights off, while leaving the covers up.

    • 2

Remove the three Phillips head screws from the headlight surround panel. Pull the panel away from the headlight.

    • 3

Remove the four Phillips head screws that attach the headlight to the cover (two on top, two on the bottom). Pull the headlight out of the cover and disconnect the plug from behind.

    • 4

Attach the plug to the replacement headlight. Insert the replacement headlight into the cover; tighten the four Phillips head screws.

    • 5

Reattach the headlight panel. Tighten the two Phillips head screws to secure the panel. Turn the switch off to lower the headlight covers.
