How to Check the Transmission Fluid in a 2007 Ford 500

Automatic transmission fluid is essential to keep your Ford 500 running efficiently and properly. The fluid is responsible for lubricating gears and valve operation. The transmission fluid is specifically designed to work with an automatic transmission and maintain the inner workings of the transmission. Transmission fluid is commonly colored red or green; this is done to distinguish the fluid from motor oil. You should check your transmission fluid anytime you check or change your oil. In order to keep your Ford 500’s transmission healthy, clean and operating to the maximum, add fluid anytime it is low.

Instructions

    • 1

Allow the Ford 500 to cool for 20 minutes. Doing so allows the fluid and components to cool, preventing serious burns.

    • 2

Locate the hood release lever within the vehicle and open the hood. Locate the transmission fluid container, which is labeled “ATF” (automatic transmission fluid).

    • 3

Pull the dipstick out of the container and wipe it with a rag. Place the dipstick back into the transmission fluid container and remove again. You will notice two lines on the dipstick that say, “Add” and “Full.” Determine the level of fluid; if the fluid is below or at the “add” line, more transmission fluid is needed for your vehicle.
