How to Turn Down the Brightness on a Laptop
There are several reasons why you may want to turn down the brightness of your laptop, including you can work while someone else sleeps, you can read on-screen text better or you just want to save energy. In any case, it's just a simple matter of going into the "Control Panel" on a PC or into the "System Preferences" on a Mac.

Click on the "Start" button in the lower-left corner of your screen.

Click on "Control Panel."

Click on "Power Options."

Click on "Adjust Display Brightness."

Adjust the display brightness.

Click on "Save Changes."
Mac

Click on the blue apple in the upper-left corner of the screen. A drop-down menu opens.

Select "System Preferences" from the menu.

Select "Displays" from under the "Hardware" heading.

Move the "Brightness" slide at the bottom of the panel to the left. Don't move it completely to the left, or the entire screen goes blank.

Close "System Preferences" by clicking on the red ball in the upper-left corner of the "Displays" panel.
