How Do I Move a Music Folder to an iPod?

You cannot move audio files from a music folder on your computer directly to an iPod. To listen to these audio files on your iPod, you first need to move your music to the iTunes library. From there, you can transfer the files onto your iPod.

Instructions

    • 1

      Open iTunes.

    • 2

Click on "File," located in the top-left corner of the iTunes program. A menu will drop beneath "File" with several options.

    • 3

Select "Add Folder to Library" in the drop-down menu. A window with folders will open.

    • 4

Click the music folder you want to move to the iPod and then click "OK" at the bottom of the open window. The audio files in that music folder will be added to iTunes.

    • 5

Plug the iPod into one of the USB connections on your computer using the included USB cord. You will see the name of the iPod under "Devices," in the column on the left side of the program.

    • 6

Click on the "Music" link directly underneath the "Library" link. Both of these are on the left side of iTunes. When you click "Music," the songs in iTunes, including the files from the music folder, will be listed.

    • 7

Choose the music that you want to move onto the iPod. When you click a file, it will become highlighted.

    • 8

Drag the files from the music folder to your iPod under "Devices."

Tips & Warnings

  • The files in the music folder must be compatible with your iPod (.mp3, .aiff, .aac, .aa or .wav audio format).
