How to Replace Spark Plugs on a Ford F-150

The spark plugs on your Ford F150 provide the spark necessary to ignite the fuel in the combustion chamber of your F150's engine. A power distributor sends an electric signal to the plugs through spark plug wires mounted on the left and right banks of the Ford F150's engine. Over time, these spark plugs will wear down and need to be replaced. The F150 can use copper or platinum spark plugs for the best possible spark in the Ford's engine. Replacement spark plugs can be purchased from most auto parts stores.

Things You'll Need

• Socket wrench
• Spark plug socket
• Socket extension

Instructions

1. Open the hood and pull out the spark plug wires by grabbing the base of the wire and pulling it out of the top of the engine. Only work on one spark plug and wire at a time.

2. Lower the spark plug socket and socket extension into the spark plug well.

3. Turn the spark plug counterclockwise to loosen the spark plug.

4. Pull the spark plug out of the spark plug well. Remove the old spark plug from the spark plug socket.

5. Insert the new spark plug into the plug socket with the electrodes facing out and lower the spark plug into the F150's plug well.

6. Carefully thread and tighten the spark plug with the socket wrench. Push the spark plug wire end down over the top of the spark plug.

7. Repeat this process for all spark plugs.
