How to Polish Plastic Chrome
Cleaning the exterior of your car will make any car look almost like new. Many cars have plastic chrome detailing that also needs to be cleaned. Polishing and cleaning the plastic chrome will make the wheels and grille shine brightly. However, regular chrome cleaner should not be used on plastic chrome--it is too abrasive and can ruin the plastic. Instead, use a couple of household products to get your chrome shining in no time.
Things You'll Need
- 6 cups all-purpose car cleaner
- Bucket
- 4 cups water
- Rubber gloves
- Soft-bristled toothbrush
- Funnel
- Spray bottle
- Lint-free soft cloth
Instructions

1
Pour 6 cups all-purpose cleaner into a large bucket. This can be a regular household all-purpose cleaner.
-
2
Dilute the cleaner by adding 4 cups warm water to the bucket.
-
-
3
Put on a pair of rubber gloves and use your hands to stir the cleaner and water together. All-purpose cleaner--especially diluted cleaner--is not bad for your skin, but wearing rubber gloves will ensure your skin doesn't dry out.
-
4
Place a funnel over an empty spray and fill the bottle up with the diluted cleaner.
-
5
Spray the plastic chrome on your vehicle, focusing on one area at a time.
-
6
Use a soft-bristled toothbrush to gently clean the chrome. Thoroughly scrub the area until it is clean and shines.
-
7
Dry the plastic chrome using a soft cloth.
