How to Install Locking Wheel Nuts

Wheel locks are designed to add additional security to your vehicle's wheels.

Locking wheel nuts are specially designed lug nuts that require a socket with a unique design, also known as a key, to tighten and loosen them. Wheel locks are designed to add additional security to your vehicle's wheels. By replacing one lug nut on each wheel with a locking nut, the wheels cannot be removed from the vehicle without the "key."

Things You'll Need

• Locking wheel key
• Socket set
• Torque wrench

Instructions

1. Purchase a set of locking wheel nuts designed for your vehicle that include the correct seating surface, length and thread size for your vehicle's wheels.

2. Expose the lug nuts of the wheel by removing the hubcaps or center caps, if necessary.

3. Remove one lug nut from each wheel, using the socket and wrench.

4. Tighten one locking wheel nut onto each wheel, by hand.

5. Tighten each locking wheel nut with the key, torque wrench and socket to the specifications of the vehicle.

6. Reinstall the hubcaps or center caps, if necessary.

7. Check each locking wheel nut after 20 to 30 miles of driving. Re-tighten any loose nuts with the key, torque wrench and socket to the specifications of the vehicle.
