2Wire modems are used by several Internet service providers around the world including AT&T, Bell Canada and Telmex. Over 15 million 2Wire modems have been sold to date and that number continues to grow steadily. Most 2Wire modems include wireless routers built into them and have several customizable features. By logging into your 2Wire modem's graphical user interface, you will have access to change wireless settings, firewall settings, IP address allocation and other features.

      Connect your computer directly to the 2Wire modem. You may use the Ethernet cord that is provided with the modem, which is usually yellow, or you can use your own. However, you may not use a crossover Ethernet cord.

      Open up a web browser on your computer. In the address bar at the top type in "gateway.2wire.net" and press the "Enter" key on your keyboard. This will redirect your browser to the 2Wire modem's interface.

      Click on the "Home Network" icon at the top of the page. Click on the "Advanced Settings" link right underneath it. If this is the first time you are accessing your 2Wire modem, you will be asked to create a new password. Otherwise, you must enter your existing password to log into the 2Wire modem. You now have access to all of the settings in the 2Wire modem.

Tips & Warnings

  • For an interface with more advanced settings, you may use the address "192.168.1.254/mdc" instead.

  • Changing certain settings will cause you to temporarily loose your Internet connection--make note of any changes you make in case you need to reverse them.
