How to Repair a Door Lock on a 2000 Dodge Intrepid
Begin by diagnosing the problem to determine if the lock mechanism is faulty or the circuit. Check all the door locks for operation to see if the problem is localized. If nothing is working, check the fuse and the door lock switch for power. If only one door lock fails to operate, check the back of the switch to make sure it is functioning properly. Check for voltage going to the switch and coming out of the switch when the switch is activated. Always determine that the door lock is bad before replacing it, as other components are just as likely to be the problem.

1
Remove the two Phillips screws in the armrest, using the Phillips screwdriver.

2
Insert the common screwdriver between the door panel and the door. Pry out all the trim fasteners securing the door panel to the door frame. Pull the door panel away from the door a few inches and disconnect all the electrical connectors. Finish removing the door panel and lay the panel aside.

Pull the plastic moisture barrier away from the door to expose the access hole to service the door latch. Disconnect the electrical connector from the door latch by pulling it off.

4
Disconnect the rod from the inside door handle at the door latch mechanism. All the rods are held in place with a plastic snap, just push the tab on the snap away from the rod and the rod can be withdrawn. Remove the inside door lock rod at the door latch in the same way.

5
Look inside the door at the two rods attached to the outside door handle and lock. Remove the door lock rod and the handle rod at the door latch mechanism.
-
6
Remove the three Phillips screws securing the door latch mechanism to the door and remove the latch. The door latch and door lock mechanism are all in one. Install the new door latch and lock mechanism in reverse order of removal.
