How to Process Human Hair for Weaves & Wigs

The making of human hair weaves is a highly profitable business. A single human hair weave can cost anywhere from $1,500 to $3,000. Some hair salons even offer human hair weaves on layaway. Most human hair for weaves comes from India, and is then processed and manufactured across Asia and shipped and sold in the United States. To start your own human hair weave manufacturing business, you must of course find humans who are willing to give or sell their hair. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Comb the hair thoroughly while it is still on the person's head. Then group, pull and tie the hair on the top of the head into a ponytail, and cut it right below the ponytail holder. (This is only required if you are cutting the hair with hair scissors. If you are shaving the head with a set of clippers, skip to step 3.)

    • 2

Tie a thick rubber band (or other type of hair tie) around one side of the hair to hold it together.

    • 3

Cut the hair below the ponytail holder with a pair of hair scissors. You can also shave the hair completely off the scalp with a pair of clippers.

    • 4

Brush out the freshly cut hair and try to group it so the top of each hair strand is aligned with the other strands.

    • 5

Wrap a thick rubber band or hair tie toward the top of the hair bundle.

    • 6

Cut the hair with hair scissors on both the top and bottom to even out its length.

    • 7

Wash, condition and dry the hair thoroughly. It is important to wash the hair with shampoo to remove any bugs like lice, and dirt and oils. Adding conditioner to the hair will add luster and shine and make it easier to comb.

    • 8

Pull the hair through a hackle. If you don't have a hackle, you can use a comb to untangle the hair strands.

    • 9

Place your hair in a plastic Ziploc storage bag to keep it clean.
