How to Add Ruffles to Girls Jeans
If you have a daughter or a girl in your life, you probably know that ruffles are one of the hottest fashion trends. Ruffles are the perfect way to glam up a plain pair of jeans. Ruffles also are an inexpensive way to add a little length to a pair of jeans that a girl has outgrown. Add to the wow factor of ruffles by pairing your decorated jeans with an appliqued T-shirt that uses the same type of fabric.

1
Visit your local fabric store and select the type of material to make the ruffles. Wash the fabric and iron it to remove any wrinkles.
-
2
Decide on the width of the ruffle, and then add 2 inches to the measurement. Measure the width at the bottom of the jeans. Multiply this measurement by 2 to get the proper length for your ruffle. Cut a strip of fabric to match these measurements.

-
3
Fold the strip of fabric in half lengthwise, with the right sides facing together. Sew the right and left sides of the strips together, allowing ½ inch seams.
-
4
Make two lines of basting stitches near the top of the open end of the fabric, leaving about 1/8 inch space between these lines. Do not cut the excess thread.
-
5
Slowly pull on the threads at the ends of the fabric until the fabric bunches together and forms a ruffle. Adjust the ruffles in the fabric until they are even and about the same size
-
6
Turn the jeans right-side out. Use straight pins to attach the ruffle to the bottom hem of the jeans and leave a ½ inch seam allowance.
-
7
Use a straight stitch to sew the ruffles to the pants, working around the entire pant leg until you are at the starting point again. Use a backstitch to reinforce the last couple of stitches.
-
8
Repeat this method of attaching ruffles if you want a second ruffle. Attach the second ruffle about 3 inches above the previous ruffle.
-
9
Cut off any excess threads, and remove any straight pins that are in the jeans.
