Jailbreak your iPhone to enable tethering, multitasking and everything you want it to do but Apple and AT&T doesn't!

Jailbreaking an iPhone is slang for releasing the restrictions that Apple has set that only allow you to install apps from their App Store. It is simple and easy, and allows your iPhone to share it's 3G internet connection with a computer, have multiple apps open at the same time, or make changes to how the iPhone interface looks.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the website http://blackra1n.com/ and choose what operating system you have, either Mac or Windows. Allow the file to download to your computer, but do not run it yet.

    • 2

Connect your iPhone to your computer, and make sure it is NOT syncing (you may have to cancel the sync if it is normally automatic).

    • 3

Run blackra1n.exe, the file that you downloaded in Step 1. Click "Make it ra1n".

    • 4

After a few moments, it should pop up with a message that says your iPhone is jailbroken. At this point, if your iPhone is stuck on the spinning circle for more than a minute, just press the Home button on the front and the power button, and the device will restart. You will need to run blackra1n.exe again.

Now there is an app on your iPhone called "Blackra1n". Open it and select to install Cydia. Cydia is the unofficial App Store that allows you to download unauthorized apps.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you ever want to take your iPhone in to the Apple store for them to look at it, or if you have to send it in, you will need to un-jailbreak it. Simply connect it to your computer using your USB cord and select "Restore" within iTunes.

  • To enable tethering on the iPhone, you will need to install a separate program from within Cydia, depending on your country and wireless carrier.
