How To Make Soap With Household Products

You can make soap with household products at home using glycerin, a common soap base. Glycerin is natural and does not require the use of chemicals such as lye. The glycerin soap base simply requires applying a low level of heat to melt it to prevent the soap from becoming mushy. Use common household products from your kitchen to make soap. The great advantage of making glycerin soap is that it is not costly.

Things You'll Need

  • 4 oz. glycerin soap
  • Saucepan
  • 5 tbsp. raw tomato juice
  • ½ tsp. red wine vinegar
  • 1 tbsp. lemon juice
  • 1 tsp. baking soda

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the melt-and-pour glycerin soap into small 1-inch cubes. Place the soap cubes into a saucepan over low heat.

    • 2

Remove the glycerin soap from the stove-top once it completely melts.

    • 3

Pour in the tomato juice, red wine vinegar and lemon juice. Stir the ingredients until they mix well.

    • 4

Add the baking soda into the melted soap mixture. Use a wooden spoon to stir the baking soda until it dissolves.

    • 5

Pour the glycerin soap into a soap mold. Allow the soap to set for three to four hours before you remove it from the mold.

Tips & Warnings

  • Wrap the glycerin soap in a cloth, plastic packaging or paper to prevent moisture from coming into contact with soap.
