Alabama requires local businesses to register for a tax I.D. number which they use when filing taxes. You need it if you pay a number of taxes, including sales tax, consumers use tax, utility excise tax and rental tax. If you are not sure whether you need an Alabama tax I.D., talk to your tax professional.
Ask for a copy of the registration form. You can obtain a copy from the Alabama Department of Revenue or you can use the online application to file online.
Fill out the form with your company's information. This includes your business address, information about the type of business and owners of the company.
Look up the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) number for your business industry. Enter the number on the application form.
Sign the application. If you are filing electronically, this will be an electronic signature.
Submit your application. Click the "Submit" button on the online application or mail your application to the Alabama Department of Revenue.
