How to Get Rid of Black Gunk From Air Jet Tubs

Save

Air jet tubs are essentially mini Jacuzzis. Sometimes they are left to sit over winter, or if you purchase a new one, it may have had stagnant water sitting in the tub lines for quite some time. The black gunk you may experience is bacteria. This bacteria could be toxic, so make sure you don't touch the black substance without a solid protection barrier, such as latex or rubber gloves. It is possible that harmful pneumonia bacteria resides in the black gunk, so protect yourself and your loved ones, do not touch it and clean the tub immediately.

Things You'll Need

  • 2 cups of white distilled vinegar
  • 1 cup of salt
  • Microfiber cloth
  • Fill the tub up two inches past the highest air jet with warm to hot water.

  • Add two cups of white vinegar and the salt.

  • Run the pump on the air jet tub for 15 minutes.

  • Drain the tub.

  • Fill the tub up again and run the pump for 15 minutes with fresh, clean water.

  • Drain the tub.

  • Wipe down with a microfiber cloth.

Tips & Warnings

  • Chlorine bleach can be used instead of salt and vinegar. This process should be performed once a month to keep your air jet tub running smoothly and remaining sanitary.
