How to Connect My Wii to My Laptop to Use That Screen

The Nintendo Wii uses a proprietary cable for connections to a television or monitor with standard RCA audio/video cables. While the cables are standard for most consumer electronic devices, a different connection is needed to attach the Wii to a laptop. Adapters are available for converting the Wii's signal to a USB 2.0 port.

Things You'll Need

  • Laptop with USB port
  • Wii to USB adapter
  • Disconnect the AV cable from the back of the Wii console.

  • Attach the Wii plug on one end of the adapter to the back of the Wii.

  • Insert the USB plug on the other end of the adapter cable into a free port on the laptop.

  • Turn on the computer and the Wii, then double-click the drive listed for the adapter connection. Click the "Start" button, choose "My Computer" and click the drive.
