1
Understand the differences between how a blade razor and an electric razor shave. A blade razor, by necessity, removes a thin part of the topmost layer of your skin every time you shave with it. As a result, when you shave regularly, your skin becomes used to regenerating this layer as a sort of light scar tissue. An electric razor moves your skin out of the way and shaves only the hair, which may come as a shock to skin that is used to having to regenerate on such a frequent basis.
-
2
Use your electric razor for the first time. Shave all parts in the same order you would have done with your razor blade.

3
Allow time for your skin to adjust. According to Mercury Shaver Centre, this may take between two and three weeks. During this time, your skin will still try to regenerate and may feel slightly irritated. Treat it gently if this occurs.

4
Resist the temptation to switch back and forth between your razor blade and your electric razor. Once you have made the decision to switch from the blade to the electric, stick with it. This is the only way your skin will begin to adapt.

Tips & Warnings
Make sure to clean your electric razor after every shave. If you have just shaved an excessive amount of hair, you may wish to clean it more frequently to avoid clogging. As an electric razor works, hair gets trapped beneath the screen on the surface and can prevent the cutter blades from working. To clean it, follow your manufacturer's instructions for screen removal and use the small cleaning brush they will have supplied for this purpose.
On occasion, lubrication for your cutter blades on your electric razor will become necessary. Follow your electric razor manufacturer's instructions for proper lubrication and maintenance of your new electric razor. Proper maintenance will aid in making your transition to the world of electric shaving much smoother.
