Instructions

    • 1

Use an acetone-based acrylic removal kit to take off acrylics. Start by clipping your nails as short as possible. Soak your finger and thumbs in the tub of acetone according to the time guidelines on the label. Rub your fingernail against the soft plastic teeth inside of the tub to help loosen and dissolve the acrylics. This can take up to 5 or 6 minutes per nail, but it is the least damaging way to get them off.

    • 2

Use a fine emery board to shape your nails into a rounded square right at your fingertips. Work from the sides toward the center, not in a sawing motion. This is the strongest shape for nails.

    • 3

Massage a cuticle cream into your cuticles and buff it in with a suede buffer. This can be done every night while you watch TV or read. This helps increase circulation and stimulate growth.

    • 4

Apply a strengthening polish to your nails. Put on a new coat every other day, and start fresh after five applications. These polishes help bond the fingernail layers to each other while providing a hard and flexible top coat to protect your nails. Use a non-acetone remover and soft cotton puffs each time you start fresh.

Tips & Warnings

  • Behave as though your nail polish is always wet and your own nails will break less often. It sounds silly, but after a few days, being careful with your nails will become a habit.

  • Do not attempt to remove bio-gel nails at home. Have them taken off by a professional.
