How to Make Pictures Less Blurry in Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0

Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0 provides several ways to make pictures less blurry. The corrections needed depend upon the amount of blur in the picture, the file format in which the picture is saved, or both of these factors.

Common problems include visible pixelation due to very high compression in fixed-pixel formats, such as JPG and PNG. Previous enlargement of fixed-pixel digital image files can also cause pixelation and blur. Another common problem is blur due to out-of-focus photographs. Fix these faults without extensive digital imaging work in Photoshop Elements 2.0.

Instructions

    • 1

Clear the scanning bed of any dust or specks. Scan the photograph and import it into Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0 if you are not working with a pre-existing image file. Scan the photo at 200 percent of its original size or larger. In the File drop-down menu, select "Import" to open the file.

    • 2

Use a combination of sharpening effects and size adjustments to improve the photo and eliminate blurring if you are working with a scanned photograph. In the Image drop-down menu, click on "Resize" and "Image Size." Resize the image to half of its original size. This should make the image sharper. Experiment by downsizing further to achieve your desired result.

    • 3

Sharpen the photo if it still requires some adjustments. In the Filter drop-down menu, select "Sharpen" then "Sharpen." If a more subtle effect is desired, select "Sharpen Edges." Save your finished file.

    • 4

If you are working with a blurry or pixelated picture that is already saved in a fixed-pixel format, such as JPG or GIF, your only option is to size the image down to make it sharper. Click on the Image drop-down menu, then select "Resize" and "Image Size." Your new size depends upon the level of blurring or pixelation in the photo, and should be adjusted to your liking.

    • 5

Save your digital file with the least amount of compression to persevere sharpness. In the File drop-down menu, select "Save for Web." Save the file in PNG format for optimal quality preservation. If you need to compress the file further because of size constrictions, save in JPG format. Save the JPG in very high quality for the best results.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always sharpen images last, and not before down-sizing.

  • Fixed-pixel images, such as JPGs and PNGs, will lose quality if sized up.

  • Always remember to save frequently while you work. This will save you time if your program unexpectedly shuts down or if your computer is accidentally unplugged.
