How to Configure AKO for Outlook 2007

Microsoft Outlook 2007 allows you to manage your email, contacts, projects and schedules, all in one place. The Outlook application supports many email formats and providers. If you want to manage your AKO email account from Outlook, you can add the account to your Outlook profile using the "Add Account" wizard. With a few server settings provided here, you can have your account configured for use within minutes.

      Launch your Microsoft Outlook application. Click on the "Tools" menu in the upper menu bar at the top of your Outlook window. Select "Account Settings" in the Tools menu. Click on the "New" button on the "Mail" tab to add a new account to your Outlook profile.

      Click on the radio button next to "Microsoft Exchange and POP 3 mail," and then click on the "Next" button. Click on the check box next to "Manually Configure Server Settings," and click on the "Next" button. Select "Internet Email" in the drop-down menu when prompted to select the email type, and click on "Next."

      Locate the entry field labeled "Your Name," and enter your name as you want it to display on your outgoing email. Enter your AKO email address in the "Email Address" entry field.

      Select "IMAP" in the drop-down menu for the account type. List your incoming mail server as "imap.us.army.mil" and your outgoing mail server as "mailrouter.us.army.mil" (both without the quotation marks). Enter your login information for your AKO email account in the user name and password fields. Click on the check box next to "Remember Password" to avoid having to enter your password every time you access your email.

      Click on "More Settings," and click on the tab labeled "Outgoing Server" to specify your server settings. Check the box to specify that your outgoing server requires authentication. Select the radio button to use the same settings as your incoming server.

      Click on the "Advanced" tab in the "More Settings" dialog box. Set the encryption connection to "SSL" for both the incoming and outgoing servers. Set your "Incoming Server port" to "993" in the entry box. Change the "SMTP port" to "465." Click on "OK" to save the settings. Click on "Next," and then click on "Finish" to complete the email account configuration.
