Microsoft PowerPoint allows users to make custom slide shows and presentations. PowerPoint's powerful tools allow users to create attractive slides and graphs. Among the multitude of different options that can be combined to create effects and transitions, users can add a 3D effect to slide transitions to enhance the quality of a slideshow and make it even more visually appealing.

1
Open the PowerPoint presentation.
-
2
Locate the two slides between which you want the 3D transition, then duplicate the second slide. You can do so by selecting the second slide then clicking the "Insert" menu item followed by the "Duplicate Slide" button.
-
-
3
Remove all animations from the original second slide. When you are finished, you should have the first slide, followed by the original second slide with no animations, then the third slide which remains an exact copy of the original second slide including any animations.
-
4
Save the first and original second slides as pictures. Select "File" or the Microsoft Office logo then select "Save As." Click "Other Format" from the resulting menu. From the "Save as type" drop-down menu, select JPEG as the file format. Name the pictures so you know the difference between slides one and two. Save the pictures in a location you will remember and be sure to save the individual slide and not the entire presentation on the prompt that follows.
-
5
Select slide two and right-click on it. From the resulting menu, select "Format Background." Select the "Solid Fill" option then select "black" from the color drop-down menu. Click "Close" when you are finished to apply it only to that one slide.
-
6
Click the "Insert" menu link then select the "Picture" button. Navigate to where you saved your pictures earlier and select the picture that represents slide one. Resize the image so it covers the entire slide.
-
7
Add a custom animation to that picture by selecting the picture then clicking the "Animations" menu item. Select "Custom Animation" from the menu.
-
8
Select the "Add Effect" button in the Custom Animation window then select the "Collapse" exit animation. Set the following settings:
Start: After Previous
Direction: Across
Speed: Fast -
9
Insert the picture that represents Slide 2 and use it to completely cover Slide 2. Using the Custom animation window again, add the "Stretch" entrance animation. Set the following settings:
Start: After Previous
Direction: Across
Speed: Fast -
10
Click the "Animations" menu option. With slide two selected, select the "No Transition" option represented by the blank slide icon in the preview window. Next, from the Advance slide option, select "Automatically after" and keep the value at 0 seconds.
-
11
Select slide number three then select the "No Transition" option as well.
-
12
Run your slideshow to test the results by pressing F5. The animation running on the second slide while transitioning to the third slide will give the entire process a 3D effect.
