How to Connect Two TVs to One Direct TV Receiver

DirecTV makes several satellite receiver models, some of which are capable of transmitting two different signals to separate television sets. Getting each signal to a TV requires a coaxial splitter available at electronics stores, plus a length of coaxial cable with couplers on the ends for connecting to each TV. The cables attach to the signal splitter in a few minutes.

Things You'll Need

• Coax two-way signal splitter
• 3 lengths of coaxial cables with couplers on the ends

Instructions

1. Connect a coaxial cable to the Out to TV jack on the back of the DirecTV receiver. The cable attaches by turning the coupler on the end clockwise around the threaded jack. Be careful to insert the meal pin inside the cable into the hole in the jack without bending or breaking the pin.

2. Connect the other end of the cable to the Coax IN jack on the signal splitter. This is usually the only jack on one side of the splitter. The output jacks are on the other end.

3. Attach coaxial cables to the OUT to TV jacks on the signal splitter, tightening the couplers by hand.

4. Route a cable to the back of each TV and secure the coupler to the RF IN or Coax IN jack on the back of each set.

5. Plug the receiver and both TV sets into electrical outlets.

Tips & Warnings

• DirecTV receivers that can transmit two separate signals come with two remote controls. The second remote can be used with a TV even if it is not the set in the same room as the receiver. Check the DirecTV manual for programming codes specific to different TV models.

• Unplug the DirecTV receiver and both TV sets while connecting coaxial cables and the splitter.
