Instructions

    • 1

Visit your local drugstore or discount store. There are many over-the-counter products available that work well and are inexpensive.

    • 2

Choose a whitening gel. Gels tend to work quickly and are easy to apply. Many find them to be faster and more efficient than whitening strips. They are also more cost effective.

    • 3

Shape the plastic trays (contained in the kit) to fit your teeth.

Most gel products come with plastic trays that need to be formed to your teeth, in order to provide the best whitening results. Follow the simple instructions located on the box.

    • 4

Apply the gel, being careful to follow the timing directions.

Do not get the gel on your gums. If your gums are sensitive, and the gel comes in contact with them, it can be quite painful.

    • 5

Rinse thoroughly, being mindful not to swallow the gel.

    • 6

Avoid dark foods, such as blueberries, coffee, tea and red wine for at least three days after bleaching your teeth.

(The bleach makes teeth more porous, and dark pigmented foods can leave stains.)

Tips & Warnings

  • Be aware that if you bleach your teeth too often, they may become sensitive, particularly to very hot or cold foods and drinks.

  • There is no need to visit a teeth whitening dentist until you have tried an at home whitener. Laser teeth whitening is expensive, and should be a last resort.

  • The best teeth whitener I have personally found is Plus White, which I purchased at a drugstore.
