How to Change the Default Download Folder in Firefox

The Internet browser Mozilla Firefox has a specific place for files when you download them. The default folder in Firefox is "Downloads." You may want to change the file download location to make downloaded files easier to find or maybe you just want the files to go somewhere else.

      Start Mozilla Firefox and select "Tools" from the menu bar. Select "Options."

      Select the "Save Files to..." radio button on the "Main" tab under the downloads section.

      Click the "Browse" button. In the "Browse for Folder" dialogue box, select the folder you would like Firefox to download files to or create a new folder by selecting "Make New Folder."

      Click "OK" in the "Browse for Folder" dialogue box. Click "OK" in the Firefox "Options" dialogue box.

Tips & Warnings

  • Selecting "Show the downloads window when downloading a file" check box will make Firefox show a window with your downloaded files.
