How to Become Energy Star Certified

Energy Star is a building company that specializes in constructing energy efficient homes around the United States. It is a rapidly growing business that offers several different partnership and job opportunities. Energy Star partners with thousands of other independent builders who use Energy Star to provide their clients with new homes that are environmentally friendly. These builders, however, are required to get Energy Star certified before becoming a building partner for the company. Becoming Energy Star certified involves several steps that must be completed before certification, and requires training and supervision by Energy Star Home Rating officials. While the process is not short, builders who have completed it rave about the new opportunities they have gained as a result.

      Become a RESNET (Residential Energy Services Network) certified Home Energy Rater. This is done under the supervision of one of Energy Star's Home Energy Raters, who provide training to potential building partners looking to become Energy Star certified. Visit the RESNET website to gain additional information about the training and standards for the certification of raters.

      Complete the Partnership Agreement available on the Energy Star website and send it in to the EPA Energy Star program. This agreement can be emailed via the Energy Star website, mailed via the post office, or faxed to EPA.

      Keep track of the user name and password Energy Star sends you once you are certified. In addition, there should be a packet of materials as well as a copy of the original Partnership Agreement signed by EPA. Also, EPA will now have your name and contact information posted on the Energy Star website under the Partner Locator, which will allow you to network with other Energy Star builders and use them as a resource.

      Market your new services and capabilities with your new resources on the EPA database. Consult the Energy Star website to learn of other information and tips about how best to take advantage of your new Energy Star certification.
