How To Remove Leather Dye Stains
Though leather dye is a great tool for reviving leather furniture, shoes and upholstery, it can be a very difficult stain to remove from clothing or other fabric. When leather dye comes in contact with clothing, it forms what is called a "loose stain," meaning it sits on the surface of the fibers, and therefore can be removed with certain cleaning agents. Though bleach can be used to remove leather dye stains, it can also damage the fabric. There are safer products that will work quickly and effectively to remove leather dye stains. Things You'll Need
- Rit Dye Remover for whites
- Rit Dye Remover for colors
- Bowl
- Plastic spoon
- Water
- Scrub brush or clean rags
- Washing Machine

Use the Rit Dye Remover for whites to remove leather dye stains from white clothing or Rit Dye Remover for colors for colored clothing. Pour the remover into a bowl and add water, according to package directions. Mix the dye remover and water until it becomes a paste.

Spread an old towel, sheet or trash bag on a flat surface to prevent the area from being damaged in case the dye remover leaks through the fabric. Lay the garment on top and apply the paste directly to the fabric, spreading it evenly across the stain. Allow the dye remover to soak in for a few minutes, longer for tougher stains.

Use the brush or rag to scrub the stain, moving in circles over the fabric. Wash the garment in a washing machine according to care directions. Allow the fabric to air dry.

Tips & Warnings
Don't place the garment in a dryer. If the stain hasn't come completely clean, you will only set the stain deeper into the fabric.
