How to Get Health Insurance Coverage After Rejection

Health insurance companies reject people for a variety of reasons, though the presence of a preexisting condition is one of the most common reasons for denial of health insurance coverage. Because of the high costs of health care, health insurance is often necessary to obtain required health care. Obtaining health insurance after a rejection may seem incredibly complex, though not impossible, and will take time, planning and patience.

Instructions

1. Contact the risk pool insurance representative for your state. Thirty-four states offer guaranteed health insurance coverage to those that have been previously rejected.

2. Visit your state's welfare office to apply for Medicaid, a joint federal-state program that offers health insurance to people with disabilities, high medical bills or have low income.

3. Apply for Social Security Disability Insurance if you were denied for health insurance coverage due to a disabling pre-existing condition. According to the Social Security Administration, people who are approved for Social Security disability benefits are automatically eligible for Medicare after a 24-month waiting period.
